AMD OWNED INTEL THIS WEEK

Threadripper is finally here.
This multithreaded monster is aimed at prosumers who need the threads.
Gamers, you’ll get great performance, but multiworkload pro’s, you’ll lose your shit.
The flagship specs are as follows:
              AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X
              16 Cores / 32 Threads
              3.4/4.0 GHz
              $999
If you purchase a $999 Intel part you’ll get 10 Cores / 20 Threads, which will obviously not hand hang with Threadripper’s 32 threads.
PCWorld is calling this beast Godzilla and has an exhaustive review on YouTube.

THE RULER

This isn’t the ruler your teacher slapped your hands with, no this is Intel’s new form factor SSD and it is DENSE.

We’re talking 1PB on SSD in 1U dense.

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN’T GET A SURFACE DEVICE

Consumer Reports gave Microsoft the smack down.

The non-profit is pulling the “recommended” rating from 4 laptops due to reliability issues.

The magazine estimates that 25% of owners will experience issues with Surface devices.

Consumer Reports

That being said, I’m writing this from my couch on a Surface Pro 3, my favorite laptop I’ve owned.

The form factor and performance have been exceptional, however battery life is poor (thanks google chrome).

I dropped the device once and had to pay $200 to get the screen fixed so they just sent me a refurbished device.

That’s how shitty field serviceability is on the Surface Pro.

3 BILLION DOLLARS

That’s how much Apple is spending on self-driving cars and augmented reality.

SPACEBORNE

SpaceX is giving HPE a piggy back ride to space.

HPE is sending a super computer to space.

Marketing is calling this machine “Spaceborne”.

Usually computers sent into space are toughened up in order to survive the non-earthly conditions.

This experiment takes off the shelf industry standard systems and sends them into orbit.

The purpose of this experiment is to get ready for the long trip to Mars.
