If you know any developers, they are either shitting their pants or pumping their collective fanboy fists… GitHub was officially acquired by Microsoft.

First off, WTF is GitHub?

Here’s my internet knowledge of it… a place where developers dump code so others can access it.

From their mouth…

GitHub is a development platform inspired by the way you work. From open source to business, you can host and review code, manage projects, and build software alongside millions of other developers.

Why is this a big deal?

Because GitHub is a leader in developer resources. They’ve done a great job of fostering open source and code development. The reason the internet is freaking out is because Microsoft has a track record of fucking shit up… Windows Phone/Windows RT/Windows 8/Nokia/Skype/And so much more! Microsoft has already made promises that it’s not going to do anything to jack around with multi cloud development (Google/AWS) and has already opened up lots of free tiers to existing customers. I haven’t had any guidance from the crystal ball but one things for certain, if Microsoft enables developers and stays true to GitHub’s mission, it will continue to be a great platform for devs.
